Great service from start to finish - great staff!
We took a 20 day cruise to the Norwegian fjords with RSSC and really enjoyed it. Regent's staff cannot do enough for you - they pay attention, are unfailingly polite, welcoming, and friendly, and they make sure that we feel as though we are treasured family members. Some quick examples: after 2 days of ordering a white bordeaux at lunch, our sommelier started bringing it over as one of the bottles in his hand without me asking. Our favorite server, I Putu, not only was efficient, got EVERY order modification correct every time, but also had fun with us - would joke that we only got 2 shrimp because the third was in his pocket for later! Whenever we would be going out for a shore excursion, we would see everyone cleaning and sanitizing the ship - including shining the brass on the handrails on every deck, painting the outside, varnishing our balcony railings, and doing deep cleans in public areas. The Duo Rubenesque worked overtime to involve everyone in their show, getting the dance floor jumping and pulling us out of our seats to join in. The onboard activities duo of Kyle and Dean were so fun and friendly, and we enjoyed all of the entertainment especially from the Signature Orchestra and Mattia. The ports - we had planned to take a few ports "off", not booking shore excursions, and decided ahead of time that we'd just go into town those days. Not knowing better, we picked Sundays to do this - when virtually all the shops in town are closed! Some ports, while scenic, had little to do, which actually was nice as it allowed you some down time. One solid recommendation is to go to the NordKapp (North Cape) as it was a great experience! The food was lovely from start to finish. We enjoyed the variety we had and were happy with virtually everything we ate and drank, including many specialty drinks that we got to try for the first time (and found a few that we will not bother ordering again - good to know when it's all inclusive vs. paying for it!) Our room was very quiet - no noise from above or below, and very limited from the side rooms (maybe we'd hear a loud sneeze but nothing else). Very comfortable, and the blackout curtains were a MUST when you are sailing in the land of the midnight sun - Regent provides two sets - one at the balcony and one next to the bed - so you can wake early, close the bedside blackouts, go into the sitting room, and open those curtains. A nice touch! Packing - we looked at the weather and packed appropriately - and they had record heat while there. Pro tip: always pack 1-2 outfits for the 'other' weather - I had a few short sleeved shirts and capris with me which was a lifesaver when it got up to 78F/25C unexpectedly! And at North Cape it was 35F/1C, so glad we had windbreaker coats with sweaters underneath! We dressed up (it's optional) for the two nights that were designated and almost everybody else did - glad we sparkled it up a bit. Since the pool is outdoors, only a few brave souls used it, but the hot tubs did get quite a bit of use. Also, good walking shoes/sneakers/hikers are a must for some of the shore excursions! Quite a bit of walking on some of the excursions, and some hikes were strenuous.

The inclusions and the crew made this so special
This was our first cruise with Regent and I'm happy to say we will definitely cruise with Regent again, after such a great experience. Before the cruise we went on the pre-cruise land program to Pumba Private Game Reserve, which far exceeded our expectations. The quality of the accommodations was exceptional and the game drives suitably thrilling, as we spotted lions (including the rare white lion), elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, monkeys, hippos, rhinos, zebras, wart hogs, cape buffalos & bushbucks and more - everything except for a leopard. We fitted so much in to our three days there and it was definitely worth it. The cruise itinerary was suitably exotic, full of places in Africa we'd never been, which was why we chose it. And, in all honesty, we will never visit some of these places again! So I'm glad to have seen some very different towns and been well looked after by Regent, so that we didn't feel unsafe at any time. The poverty & dirtiness of some of these towns was an eye opener & often made for uncomfortable viewing as we sped past in our bus. But the landscapes outside the towns were like nothing I've ever seen before. The sand dunes and moon landscape of the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia for example, was spectacular and worth the excursion. And the true all inclusive nature of this cruise really made it stand out for us and why we will cruise with Regent again. Wifi is included, gratuities as well and not having to pay anything for specialty restaurants or purchase a beverage package but to have all spirits, cocktails, soft drinks, specialty coffee, beers and wines included (except for a few very $$$$ wines) is a real plus. As is having valet laundry service included - don't discount this when deciding on a cruise as I first did! Being able to put your dirty clothes into a laundry bag outside your stateroom at night and have it returned clean, pressed and on coathangers the next day at no cost, was almost miraculous and we got used to it very quickly. Unlimited included excursions is also great value for money, although on this itinerary we only managed to go on one excursion in each port, due to the times we arrived and departed. The one port we did manage to book two included tours was the one port we didn't actually make it to - Mindelo in Cape Verde - due to high winds making it difficult for the Captain to dock safely he said. This was so disappointing and it meant an added sea day, which was four sea days in a row. Too many sea days in a row was a little boring and we couldn't wait to get off the ship. We had thought we might have gone straight to Santa Cruz de la Palma and have an extra day there but the Captain said they weren't able to make that happen. We were also delayed five hours docking into Dakkar in Senegal after two sea days because of strong currents, which meant we had only a few hours there. Such a shame as the little I saw of this vibrant, flamboyant city left me wanting more. It was such a contrast to some of the other ports we visited and we would have liked more time there and less time in some of the less interesting ports but that's hindsight talking. We also loved the spaciousness of our Deluxe Verandah suite. I travelled with my sister so having a walk-in wardrobe was such a blessing as we used it not only to hang our clothes, but as a dressing room as well. Not having to try and cram our clothes into a miniscule wardrobe was such a big plus and we really appreciated the space. As for the food, well you won't go hungry on a Regent cruise! We were almost overwhelmed by the huge menu the first night in Compass Rose, as it was two full pages - one page full of many choices of soups, appetisers, entrees and desserts and then another page full of add-ons and favourite dishes available every day. I loved ordering a steak and then adding on a lobster tail and scallops. I think I must have had that lobster tail added to almost every entree I ordered when I ate there! On the whole the food was good but we did find it could be a bit hit and miss, sometimes overcooked and dry. But only a minor quibble. Lastly, as with any cruise it's the crew who can make or break it and I'm very happy to say that the staff onboard were uniformly excellent and the service we received was exemplary - professional and friendly but not overly familiar. We had many interesting or funny conversations with our servers, bartenders, room attendants, entertainers etc and the friendliness of the crew made us feel very welcome. Overall it was a fantastic experience for our first cruise with Regent. The itinerary appealed as did the special offer price, and add to that the true all-inclusive nature of the cruise, and it's great value for money.

Fun time in Africe.
Had a great time on an older but fun ship. The food was excellent-especially the Italian restaurant Sette Mare. There were plenty of lecturers on the ship, as we had an abundance of sea days. My favorite lecture series was by an interesting man named Peter LaSorsa who gave a series on travel safety. It was very informative, thought-provoking and entertaining as well. He had a great stage presence. Also there was a nice series on Photography by Vanessa. We missed some ports or arrived late due to weather-but that is beyond anyones control. The nightly shows were very good and pretty well attended by the ship. The staff on the ship were excellent and who doesn't like free laundry--my favorite perk. ALso the wifi was very good on the ship and there were no issues. I would like a larger gym but it is what it is. Overally it was a fun cruise.
