Fantastic

Absolutely amazing in every way. The hospitality. The attention to every detail. The service. The suites are fabulous with extremely comfortable bed, pillows and linens. Very clean. Outstanding restaurants with outstanding cuisine. Everyone on the ship went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. The shows were fantastic. The style, the class of all the shows! The night time entertainment was world class! The Phillip Browne show was fantastic. He was the guest entertainer that was brought in on board for two nights. Both different shows. The food and beverage director, Freddy was hands on to make sure we are all taken care of. The bar staff was on top of all the classic cocktails and more. Great wine list. A variety of beers. The Spa was incredible. Best massages ever. Our butler was prompt and professional. Our steward was incredible. Room was always cleaned promptly. Room service was incredible.

A cruise north of the Arctic Circle

This cruise started in Edinburgh, visited the Orkneys, Shetlands, Alesund, Norway, went north of the Arctic Circle, Longyearbyen, North Cape, and then down the Norwegian coast, crossing the Arctic Circle, and in Trondheim, seeing trees again. It finished in Amsterdam. Sirena had about 500 passengers aboard. I only saw one child. He was about 8 years old. We had clear, calm weather until we got to Amsterdam, but it was cold. There was no problem getting a lounge chair by the pool. This is a very interesting area, but probably not for first-time cruisers. If you like Alaska, but want something different, this is a cruise to do. Oceania did its usual excellent job, especially with the food. The Waves Grill, by the pool, has a 'turf and surf hamburger (Wagyu beef patty and a couple of pieces of lobster). The Italian and steak restaurants on the other ships are combined, and the former Toscana space is now Red Ginger. A different Humphrey Slocombe ice cream was available each day. The new one is available at dinner in the buffet, and the next day at lunch. Sirena was redone recently, but it is showing its age.

Norwegian get away

We enjoyed the roominess of our PH suite on the 8th floor. The food was excellent as always. Every excursion was well organized with roomy transport buses and timely return to relax before dinner. The entertainment was better than usual with a mentalist/comedian and music from professionals. The ship is smaller which allowed us to get to know more of the on board guests. My only critique is there are too many areas for smokers on ship. The staff were friendly and Oceania never says no to a reasonable guest request. I wish we would have seen the Northern Lights but it was too soon. We hiked and enjoyed RIB boats on the sea. I’d do it again although some of the stops were lacking in excursion opportunities in the remote areas. We only had four days at sea. Great opportunity to see Edinburgh and Amsterdam without having to book a hotel.
