The Celebrity Summit made Alaska PEAK!
Truly my wife's first real vacation. Someone else, made the bed, cleaned the room, left a treat on the pillow, etc. The standard dining area was immaculate and getting a good window table took a little patience, but we enjoyed every meal. The excursions helped us understand that Alaska was a frontier, un-settled and still wild. Recommend the Yukon high bridge from Skagway bus tour which tracks the Klondike gold rush of 1897-ish. Whale watching was great, but we paid too much. Sometimes you get great deals on half empty tour boats if you can make an offer and walk away. Its risky, but it could save you hundreds. We enjoyed a concierge class balcony and left our sliding door open all night just to hear the waves and enjoy cool night air. Eat dinner early and take in the early shows @7pm, the later shows (10pm) are "R" rated. Just before the cruise, we flew into Anchorage, spent the night and took an early train ride from Anchorage to Seward - very beautiful. We often left the in room TV tuned to the ship navigation channel. Felt more connected to the ship knowing speed, bearing and approximate arrival times. The crew was polite, patient and always smiling - like they were all trained at Chic-fil-A!

Alaska is Awesome. Celebrity is now my top choice
Cruise was awesome. Weather beautiful and warm. We stayed on 3rd floor inside stateroom and was really nice with redo. They need to do this with all their older ships. Some have been updated but not the rooms so look close at info. Hubbard Glacier was awesome, and weather cooperated where we got close. Ship interior is great, and staff were awesome. Did mixology class and wine paring and both fun and informative on sea days or early departure. Chose inside to save a lot and planned to be off the ship a lot. Did the tour up the Mountain in Skagway. Was very good through Skagway tours. Juneau rented a car for the day and went all over. Mendenhall Glacier. Ask about the best place in town for fish in chips. Local bar halfway back from Glacier. Halibut to die for and a large that two people could hardly eat for $30. MY wife did the zip line in Icy strait and loved it. I just went to the top and road back down after hike (afraid of heights:) Then went to Canary for the best bloody Mary with shrimp and Crab. Ketchikan, we walked all over town. My brother-in-law caught a salmon with his hands there were so many. Lot dead up stream so smelled some:). I have been on many cruises and only one better so far was a 10 day of the Baltic Sea. Celebrity food is really good. Always took my kids on RC so with new match program get lots of perks being Elite on Celebrity. Stayed one night in Anchorage before and had a nice dinner and took bus from airport at noon and had a great guide with tons and of info for the 2 plus hour drive to Seward. Pretty drive. Stayed one night at end to see Vancouver and rented a car for the day and did Stanley Park and suspension bridge park. Flew back to Chicago 10:30 Saturday. loved clearing customs there and not Ohare.

A Great Cruise with many memories
Review of Celebrity Summit Cruise of August 1st, 2025 GETTING TO THE PORT It was necessary to stay overnight in Vancouver before the Cruise. Being from Boise, I live close to Vancouver. However, convenient early flights were cancelled as Canadians decided to stay home. This limited flight options. So, I ended up staying at the airport at a wonderful property called the Fairmont Airport. Service was way above expectations. So was the price (smile). The staff was very customer-centric. Great views of the airport and mountains from the North side of the Fairmont. The restaurant was very good as well as bar service. However. If you want to eat cheap, there are lots of dining options outside of security in the airport terminal. Note: Downloading and installing the ArriveCan app and then filling out the required forms will smooth your entry into Canada. The Celebrity transfer from the Airport to the ship was perfect. I checked in at the airport and they checked my bags at the airport. The next time I saw my bags was at five pm on board the Celebrity Summit. It helps to complete the online check-in process before showing up at the airport check in outside of baggage claim. It was a cake-walk to go through US Customs as they used facial recognition. I did show my passport though. BOARDING (This was my sixth Celebrity Cruise) I had prior hip surgery and walk slowly. I used a wheel chair pushed by Canada Place and Celebrity staff to go through a TSA-like check and then board the ship. The Celebrity staff member took me directly to my Muster station. They confirmed that I watched the safety video. Then he pushed me to my room. I was very far forward on the port side. I made my 10k steps a day easily being in that location with my cane and trekking poles. I found veranda Cabin to be nearly perfect. It had been renovated. It reminded me of a California Closets type of make-over to improve the use of space. I remembered how tight the same type of cabin had seemed on the Connie and Infinity. I loved the makeover. The bathroom had also been updated. There were a few cabin oddities that I reported. Water pressure in the shower was poor and the sliding veranda door did not have a working locking mechanism. It used a lock located at the top of the door. There was some noise from the forward elevator lobby. However, it did not bother me. There were some loud celebrating adults and fussy kids that I heard before falling asleep. This was OK. Of course, Cruise ship TP is always an issue and a subject of jokes. But, it’s required by the onboard plumbing system. (Onboard) Michael was my cabin attendant. He did a wonderful job keeping the room up and was very well regarded by his clients. This was a dry Cruise for me (tears). One of my meds would not allow my three Malbec a day cruise habit. So, I spent a lot of time in the Cafe Al Bacio on deck five. That is my favorite spot on every Celebrity ship. Leslie, Kristina and Oliver provided me and many others with outstanding coffee and pastry service. Since my wife passed away the prior December, I just ate in the buffet. For breakfast, I found the entire staff to be outstanding. Luh was very helpful with coffee and cleanup. The Buffet is huge. It was almost Edge-like. Food from many nationalities was available. Food options for the gluten-free diners with celiac disease as well as vegans were available. At Dinner, the salad bar was my favorite stop as well as a protein stop. One of the aft bar servers kept me supplied with diet coke. Her name was Edithe. I found out that her current contract had ended. So, she was flying back to Madagascar the next day. I hope they renew her contract. She was also a friendly hard worker. Overall, Summit 2.0 did not disappoint. I almost felt like I was on an Edge class ship. PORTS Vancouver: The most beautiful port in the Northwest. There is a huge selection of things to see and do before the Cruise. The restaurant scene is outstanding. Time and money are the only constraints. Ketchikan: If you grew up in Seattle, you’ll love Ketchikan. I’ve visited there three times in three years. It rained for each port stop. I’m beginning to think that hI’ll see a unicorn before a dry day in Ketchikan. There is a large variety of things to do in Ketchikan. This includes fishing, going crabbing, air tours, crab feasts, a lumberjack show, riding an amphibious duck, and hiking. There are also opportunities to look for bears and to whale watch. Sitka: I stayed in port. There was plenty to do and watch in this scenic port. However, the best experience can be had by going into town by bus. It’s a six-mile ride to town. The Bliss came in after the Summit and dropped off four thousand other cruisers, Those who got to the buses early with reservations won that race. There was no rain!! A lot of Alaska’s early Russian history can be seen in Sitka. I saw people heading out fishing, going on scenic and whale watching excursions, as well as taking kayak and air tours. Juneau: There is no shortage of things to do. Tracy’s Crab Shack and a bar that serves a drink called the “Duck Fa*t” are big draws. There are plenty of shopping and dining opportunities. The Medenhall Glacier is a hugedraw. The five glacier air tour and the air tour to the Taku Lodge for an old fashioned salmon dinner with the possibility to see bears is a bucket-list treat. Juneau offers fishing, whale watching, a sky tram, a mountainside salmon bake and many other activities. You can even hike down the mountain from the top of the skytram. My favorite restaurant in Juneau is the Hanger. It’s by the seaplane base. Icy Strait Point (Hoonah): This place was a wonderful surprise. The usual suite of tours is available. There are several close by restaurants as well as a boardwalk that takes you to an old cannery that’s been turned into a shopping destination. The longest and highest zip line ride exists here. You can catch a sky tram and then catch the zip line down to the shore from the top of the mountain. From the top of the mountain and the skytram you can see the ships in port. There is a killer whale (Orca) sculpture near the docks. A free sky tram takes you from one pier to the other. It looks like UTV touring might be available. I never saw any of them used. Hubbard Glacier: You enter an inlet from the Pacific Ocean. After almost two hours of sailing you end up very close to a massive glacier that dwarfs the Mendenhall Glacier. The Hubbard glacier is a 10 out of 10 for scenery. You hear the glacier growling as the ice works its way down the mountain. There is a chance of catching the glacier calving as it’s in view for a significant amount of time. There is spectacularly scenery as you sail to and from the glacier. Seward: The ship makes an afternoon/nighttime crossing to Seward across the North Pacific. The seas can be a mite rough. The Summit is usually docked by six AM. If you are staying around Seward awhile, Celebrity has a host of tour options. You can also rent a car and explore the local area. Trains and buses can get you from Seward to Anchorage. Seward scenery is spectacular. The Celebrity transfer bus ride from Seward to Anchorage takes two and a half hours.
