The Crew is fantastic
My experience on Holland America Eurodam to Alaska. This cruise is definitely for adults, children would be bored. 99% percent of the passengers on this sailing are adults with the majority retirement age. Our room was nice, and a balcony was worth the extra price, it’s also very quiet nobody running down the hall at night or slamming doors. The vibe of the ship is quiet, refined, and relaxing, some would say boring but I’m boring, so it works for me! The food is good. I give it an 8 out of 10, I’m very picky. We didn’t get the drink package because it would not be worth it, and there’s no way we could drink 15 drinks a day per person without passing out ha! But buying separate drinks can add up fast. It was $25 for 2 drinks! They did do a happy hour, but it was only for drinks $11 for less. I really like that the casino is not in the middle of the ship, so you don’t have to walk through it everywhere you go. Same with the picture studio, on other cruises I have felt constantly pestered by people asking to take our picture thankfully, it’s not like this on this cruise. You are left alone; you almost have to go seek them out. The crew is fantastic, very friendly and accommodating. Talking to them most of them seem to be from Bali Indonesia or the Philippines. Other passengers are also friendly, and we’ve already talked to some interesting people who have travelled all over the world. No wild parties or unruly behavior here. Glacier Bay was a MUST! If you go to Alaska do Glacier Bay. One negative was the Orange Party was held in the Rolling Stone Lounge, and the venue was way too small for all the passengers on board. I ended up leaving as there was nowhere to sit as did other passengers. I was disappointed as I had even bought a special dress for the occasion and ended up only wearing it for like 10 minutes. Please put the Orange Party in a bigger venue. What made this whole cruise was the amazing CREW!

Another excellent HAL cruise
We are fans of Holland America and this was our fifth cruise with them. Eurodam is a nice ship and our stateroom was terrific. The weather was practically perfect and we enjoyed the ports (we don’t book shore excursions) and had no issues getting off and on the ship. Food was good and we booked one speciality restaurant (Tamarind) and enjoyed that meal. While on board we booked another cruise for next May. Having sailed with many other cruise lines, we are definitely partial to Holland America. Just to be clear, we are in our 60s and very active. A good number of passengers were much older, and they were accommodated well. We also saw a few families and I know there were special programs for them. The ship was fully booked but we never felt crowded or had to wait long for anything. All together a great cruise to Alaska.

We LOVED This Eurodam Cruise
Eurodam, September 20 – 27, 2025. This was our second cruise, 21 years after the first and our first on HAL. We absolutely loved it. The Eurodam is just our style. We’re 71 and 72, and while we enjoy the kids in our life, we enjoy relaxing without yelling, running kids. We were around the corner from the aft elevator on the starboard side. Didn’t hear any elevator noise. Good view from our balcony and easy to get anywhere. We got some exercise walking down the hall to the bow elevators since most of our time was spent in that direction. The boarding and disembarking processes were very easy and orderly. No chaos at all. We would love to do this exact cruise again, but with different excursions. The Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau was a bit disappointing because it’s pretty far away and it was shrouded in clouds. The hatchery was interesting and educational but there wasn’t a lot to it. The Salmon Bake was tasty and fun. In Icy Strait Point, a city owned by the Tlingit, we learned how to filet and cook a halibut. It was interesting and pretty fun. We walked Sitka on our own, which was fine because the lady at the Visitor’s Center was very informative. In Ketchikan we went to George Inlet Lodge Crab Fest, which was my favorite excursion. All you can eat Dungeness crab! And they showed us how to eat it, so we got every bit of sweet meat. We bought the Have It All package, which was good for us. We used the dining credit for the Pinnacle, which was extremely delicious. We came close to 15 drinks a day a piece but only by ordering canned water with our drinks. But it was extremely nice to have that in the refrigerator when we came back from an excursion. The Thermal Suite is definitely worth it, especially the steam room. We had breakfast in our room twice but got coffee and hot water delivered several times prior to breakfast. We over packed phone charger cords and didn’t need the power bank. One good clue I picked up from Cruise Critics was the magnetic hooks. We took 6 and used them for our raincoats, hats, etc. Also, we needed a cruise approved 15 amp power strip for our CPAPS as well as an extension cord supplied by the ship. We ordered Distilled Water prior and it was delivered to our room upon arrival. There are plenty of USB A ports. We didn't really need heavy coats, but our FroggToggs rain ponchos were a must. Just don’t get too close to the grills at the salmon cooking events. I now have a nice wrinkle across the front of mine. We carried a backpack for items with lithium batteries, meds and other essential carryon items. It was useful but a smaller one would have worked well for the excursions. We didn’t realize we would need lots of ones and fives for tipping bus drivers, shuttle drivers, excursion hosts, etc. On the first day I asked our Steward to bring ice twice a day and it was used every single day. For me, taking a large steel water bottle was an absolute necessity. You can bring a drink from a bar back to your stateroom. It's a smart idea to order it Neat so you don't have to worry about spilling it. And if you have ice in your room, you're great. A MAJOR highlight of the Eurodam at this time of year is the ability to cruise Glacier Bay. Boats can only go into Johns Hopkins Inlet after September 1st when the seal pups are mostly gone. And the Eurodam is the only cruise ship allowed close to the Johns Hopkins Glacier because of its size. We came within ¼ mile of the glacier and saw several small calving events. Small is relative. The glacier is 250 feet tall. We saw many seals on the floes but only after someone pointed them out because they were so small and far away.
