Alaska cruise, whales and northern lights
Ship shows some age and maintenance could be improved, but the overall experience was wonderful. Staff were all pleasant, food was consistently good and shore excursions through the cruise line were on-time and a good value. Would cruise with HAL again. Food in open and fixed seating dining room was varied, always warm and service was good. Sailed in Neptune Suite, a splurge, but would recommend the aft location - particularly for an Alaskan cruise. Entertainers were talented with a variety of shows. We did have very good weather, saw lots of whales and had two evenings with northern lights. Ship’s staff were accommodating and the team in the Lido Market were wonderful. Embarkation was easy and cabins were ready early with luggage already waiting by the door. Room stewards were wonderful and met all our needs and kept the cabin in great shape. I would recommend HAL to friends and family.

WOW.... something happened to the Old HAL.
After a 5 years on not cruising HAL , mainly on Oceiana, I was totaly impressed with what HAL has become. Something changed and wildly for the better than in 2019. I now cruise with my wife who is using a walker and a ships ADA facilities and cabins as well as passenger service were important factors. I boarded in Anchorage for a 10 day cruise tour and from the first contact with a a HAL rep to debarking in Vancouver, everything, worked like a well oiled clock. From high quality land accomidations to their super coordinated service for disabled passengers. was the best I have seen in 45 years of cruisin and far far better than Oceiana. The Train even had elevators for the observation car and reserved seats on bus transit...... But on to the Noordam. From the molment the bus stopped to being at the cabin with liggage toom a total of maybe 15-18 min . THat check in, security, boarding and sitting in the cabin. with wheelchair provided staff member. ( Even thought my wife uses a walker they whisk all compromised passengers with a super efficient team.) I selected a J class inside whic was an ecellent 240 sq ft and in my opinion the best layout on the ship . An inside for Alaska??? Ya. because in Alaska I have discovered from 4 other Alaska Cruises in everything from a Penthouse on down is best seen on deck . In even the most expansive cabin you can never get the full impact of the dynamic 360 degree landscape you are traveling through. . I found even from a Penthouse veranda I was looking through a knot hole at the world. Insides get you out to truly absorb the grandure you just can not fully absorb from your veranda or window. My Last Cruise on HAL was the westerdam Tokyo to Sydney and the food and ship rather lacking. However, the Noordam was a shock for the better. The decore and layouit were super easy to get around in...and the quality of everything from bedding to carpets was as good as my past cruises with Luxury lines like Regent or Oceiana. Something happened in the past years for the better. Noy the cuisine.... yes Cuisine not just food. I was suprised to see things like choice to prime meats served even in the Lido. Prime rib, Tenderloin, Stuffed Pork Loin Escargo, being served almost on a daily baisis. Little details like how they did pasta in the classic Italian manner was impressive. ( When I say imoressive you need to understand I have had the pleasure of attending the Cilinary Inst of Ameriaa in St Helena and taught by chefs like Thomas Keller) The variery and quality was so good that I never even got to to the Dining room... As to dress code... just about everyone was casual in , many times, the same outfits the wore on the shore excursions. One very nice feature of the ship is the ART classes and on board naruralists in addition to NPS Ranger Naturalists in Glacier bay. The passengers on theis trip were 99.9% adults over 50 and almost no kids, I seldon saw any kids and the ones I dis see were well mannered as were the adults. The Final disembarkation was so smooth and again my wife was provided with a HAL crew taking her from the ship to baggage and then to the airport transver bus. It was the first time it just flowed things were seamless and swift like I have never seeen in years. The only potential difficulity is for people who dont have smart phones or gizmos as HAL is starting to more an more want you to do everything on them from boarding pass to shore ex. Not having one can cause them shock... but they moved around the problem when faced with it. In summary The Noordam was as good or better in many ways than I expected and over delivered in every area I could want. They wowed me... and after 40 cruises world wide from Regent to NCL thats signifficant !! Maybe they will WOW you too.. its a new day for HAL. all is good.

Unforgettable 14-Day Alaska Cruise on Holland America
My husband and I recently returned from a 14-day Alaska cruise aboard the Noordam, and it was an incredible experience! While the ship may not be one of the newest or fanciest, I absolutely loved its classic décor and elegant atmosphere. It gave us a warm, timeless feeling that made everything more special. Here are the highlights of our trip: 1. Exceptional Service from Crew From the captain to the servers, everyone made us feel right at home. The service was warm, genuine, and truly exceptional. The Cruise Director was full of energy and so much fun! Madden and others at the main dining room front desk welcomed us with such warmth every time. Level one customer service deck Angelus and the team really helped to reslove any our concerns quickly. 2. Scenic Route The Noordam’s itinerary is perfect for glacier lovers and nature enthusiasts. We were able to see more glaciers and breathtaking scenery than we expected—an absolute dream for any Alaska cruise. 3. Delicious Dining The food was excellent across the board—from breakfast and lunch to afternoon tea and dinner. The atmosphere in the dining room was lovely, and the service was top-notch. A special thanks to Paolo, Jason, Angus, John, and the rest of the dining team for their professionalism and kindness. 4. Spotless Cabins Our stateroom was cleaned daily with great care. Mohammad and the housekeeping team went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, making us feel truly cared for. 5. Fun & Enriching Activities We really enjoyed learning about Holland America’s history and Alaska’s unique culture. The onboard music and parties were so much fun and gave us memories we’ll never forget. 6. Great Fitness Facilities The gym and swimming areas were clean, well-equipped, and very convenient. It was easy to stay active and relaxed during the cruise. Overall, we felt welcomed, pampered, and entertained every day. Thank you to everyone on the Noordam for giving us a trip to remember!
