The Earth Room
New for 2023, Borealis’ Earth Room is a peaceful lounge, designed to inspire and ignite a passion to find out more about the world we live in and how we can lessen our impact on the environment.
Here, you will find a hand-selected range of around 350 rare books, by eminent writers – chosen by Fred. Olsen, along with podcasts and videos to watch on the iPads provided. These resources, and occasional guest speakers, are particularly focused on sharing ways that we can all make small changes in our lives to positively impact climate change.

The Botanical Room
Along with the Earth Room, the Botanical Room has been brought to life in 2023. Designed with our green-fingered guests in mind, this comfortable lounge is decorated in lush shades of green and yellow. You’ll find a selection of magazines and books on topics such as gardening, flowers, plant care and flora species around the world. The lovely plants and fresh flowers bring a feeling of the outside, inside.

Outstanding cruise
We’re long-time Celebrity cruisers, and this was our first HAL cruise and it did not disappoint. Food, drinks service, cleanliness, staff, and itinerary were all outstanding! There were a decent number of daily activities, and although we really loved the live music offerings, we weren’t impressed with what went on in the theater. We felt that overall HAL easily met our needs and desires and we will be looking to them for longer and different itineraries from what Celebrity offers. Most noticeable differences based solely on this cruise were that demographics were 10-15 years older, there were more mobility challenged folks, and theater entertainment was meh. We liked that the lido buffet wasn’t self service for most stations and enjoyed the burgers at Dive-In. Dining room food was consistently good to excellent, but food is subjective so that’s just our opinion. Itinerary was amazing and we highly recommend it. Most of the port towns were walkable from the ship and we literally walked everywhere and explored on our own. We did two excursions, with the one to Berlin being absolutely incredible with history and sites visited. It was nice to not have to book excursions in every port and still experience the beauty of the cities.

Wonderful Time Cruising through Norway
The Ship: “A”. Loved the ship! It’s beautiful throughout (décor, art, etc.), very well appointed, wonderful spaces, and never felt terribly crowded. Our verandah stateroom was comfortable, modern, and the shower had excellent water pressure. The Food: “A-”. The menu was quite varied and quite delicious. Of course, there were a couple of slight misses, but no big deal. Our dinner at the specialty restaurant, Rudi’s, was outstanding. The Service: “B”. Generally, the service was perfectly fine, but nothing stood out. The biggest issue was the service at the music venues where on multiple occasions, we sat at tables with dirty glasses for 30+ minutes prior to being cleaned. It seemed like these areas were severely understaffed. The Entertainment: “B-”. I really enjoyed the variety of the 3 music venues and thought the performers at all three were quite good. The World Stage was a mixed bag – one performer was excellent, one was mediocre, and the sing/dance troupe was barely High School quality. The Itinerary: “A-”. For our tastes, this itinerary had the perfect mix of urban centers, towns, natural beauty, and sea days. Disembarking in Amsterdam made our post-cruise day much more efficient and enjoyable than disembarking in Rotterdam. Passenger Mix: I would estimate it was 45% Americans, 45% Dutch/Belgians, and 10% Miscellaneous. Generally speaking, everyone was respectful and doing their thing. As expected, it skewed older than our past cruises, but there was still a good vibe at the music venues and shows. Miscellaneous: special touches like the Royal Dutch Cafe and Orange Night added personality to the ship experience.

Wonderful ABC Islands with HAL
HAL is a wonderful cruise line and Rotterdam is a great ship. This was a nine day ABC island plus Half-Moon Cay cruise. HAL excels in all aspects of cruising, food, bars, nightclub entertainment, the have it all package and cabins are all better than Carnival and RCL and are on par with Disney. The only place that HAL is lacking is the main stage entertainment where Carnival and RCL are slightly better and Disney is amazing. The comedians were good on this trip and the Island Magic Steel Band was awesome but the standard entertainment on the big stage was not as good as the other lines. The food was amazing and the HAL Lido buffet is exceptional, so much that we skipped the MDR all nights but one with two nights in amazing speciality restaurants and the other six nights at the Lido buffet. HAL is more of a laid back vibe and takes dressy nights seriously staying dressed the whole night. This was an exceptional cruise second only to our HAL Alaska cruise tour last year.
