Dining Options

Chic
The height of contemporary cuisine is realised at Chic, where the freshest ingredients of the wild are evolved for a modern palate. Proteins that pack a punch—beef rib-eye, lamb chops, Mediterranean sea bass—are treated to the delicate drizzle of sauces made from scratch. Salt is sea salt. Cream is crème. And truffles mingle with champagne for a butter sauce that surpasses all expectation.
Most intriguing: The first dry-aged steaks at sea, each hand-selected and aged for nearly four weeks to achieve the pinnacle of flavor, tenderness and aroma. This prime beef is joined by Maine lobster, veal Parmesan, grilled branzino and more succulent dishes paired with addictive sides and irresistible desserts.

Wonderland
DISHES BEYOND YOUR WILDEST IMAGINATION
Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine is all about pushing the culinary envelope. Dishes are designed to tantalise your taste buds and present a visual feast. Find crispy crab cones topped with fluffy avocado mousse, gazpacho served with pepper spheres and bread foam, and dreamy desserts that will take your breath away. Pair your meal with cocktails described as “magical” elixirs crafted to deliver full-sensory experiences.

MENU HIGHLIGHTS
Once you “brush” the menu at Wonderland, you’ll get to choose dishes based on five natural elements — Earth, Sea, Fire, Ice and Sun. If you love spice and smoky flavours, opt for something from the Fire section, like the Buffalo chicken eggs or the crispy Shrimp kataifi with scotch bonnet pepper. If you’re in the mood for something chilled and refreshing, try the red and white Tuna sashimi or the Oceanic citrus with yuzu granite from the Ice section. You’ll find the heartiest options in the Sea and Earth sections, like Liquid lobster served with bone marrow and caviar, branzino prepared with tamarind spice emulsion, and Berkshire pork belly paired with apples and cracklin.
PRO TIP
Brush the menu at the entrance of restaurant with a paintbrush dipped in water and watch as each dish appears on the page.

10+ Cruises: 60s
6 Night Cabo/Ensenada cruise in August
6 night cruise which included an overnight visit to Cabo San Lucas and a stop in Ensenada. The Ovation is a 9 year old ship and is in excellent condition and very clean. Every day, multiple times a day, we saw the crew cleaning the deck chairs and public areas. At the entrance to the Windjammer Buffet is an employee who reminds you to use one of the handwashing stations located at the door way (as oppose to Carnival ships which you just walk in). There are also liquid hand sanitizer dispensers placed all around the ship. Boarding was easy and it took us 15 minutes from arrival at 10:30 until we were on the ship. Once on the ship, the first thing you want to do is to log into the ship WIFI (free to use the app, a charge to use internet), open the RCL app, and go to activities. On port days, the North Star (aerial observation ride) and RipCord by iFLY (skydiving ride) are free by appointment. Appointment must be made on the ship for the free rides and are on a first come basis. We were able to easily book appointments for our first day in Cabo via the app. The app also allows you to message your fellow cruisers for free while on the ship. We had a guaranteed balcony cabin and was assigned 30 days before the cruise. The room (deck 6) was square inside which is different from the usual rooms. Infront of the balcony was a lifeboat whose top was even with the balcony floor. The room was clean and the square shape made it seem more spacious. The square shape also meant our balcony was 50% wider than the other balconies. Based upon the balcony we got, the balcony guarantee was a good pick, and saved money. However, we got lucky. The other Obstructed Balconies on deck 6 have lifeboats which block the view from the rail down. We never had a problem finding something to eat on the ship. Once the buffet closes for the night, there is pizza, and light snacks, available on deck 4 overnight. Although the ship had 4682 passengers (per the cruise director), we never had a problem finding a table in the Windjammer. The trick is the go to the rear of the Windjammer near the back exit doors. There are multiple food stations and the longest line we stood in was 5 people. The main dinning room had good service and dinner took about 1 hour and 15 minutes a night. The first day at sea (2nd night of the cruise)was the Dress Your Best Night for dinner. The other 5 nights were Resort Casual or you could dress the nightly ship theme (day 3-White Night, day-4 Tropical Night, day-5 70s Night, day 6-80's Night). The ship has numerous free activities including rock climbing, Flowrider (surf simulator), roller skating, pickleball, bumper cars, pool tables, basketball, Ping pong, video game area in SeaPlex, shuffleboard, 2 large family pools, a young kid water play area, 1 large pool for adults only, and even a donut shape pool with a circular water current. It also has a large pool side screen for playing movies. For Cabo San Lucas, the ship arrives at 1 PM. Since Cabo has no cruise dock, you take a water tender from the ship to the small boat dock. On the first day the tenders run from 2:30 PM to 1 AM. On the 2nd day, the tenders run from 6 AM to 4:30 PM. Make sure to return to the ship on time. We ended up leaving Cabo with a couple less passengers then we arrived with. Overall the cruise was excellent. We did self assist (aka you carry your own luggage off the ship) and was in the parking lot by 7:30 AM. With only 2 cruise ships (Navigator and Ovation) sailing from San Pedro during the summer, parking was abundant. However, from October-April there will be 3 additional ships (2 Princess, 1 NCL) sailing from San Pedro so parking might get tight. Carnival, who sails from nearby Long Beach with 3 ships year round, already has parking problems and sends guests sailing on Panorama to an off site parking lot (usually the Long Beach Convention Center).

Loved adults' only Solarium, food & entertainment
Delighted with our cabin, midship deck 3. Chose this location to minimise seasickness risk on infamous Tasman Sea crossing - also as a non balcony cabin it was great value. Adequate space and storage, and the tiny bathroom was well designed. Liked having a door to the shower instead of an icky shower curtain sticking to the ankles. Other pros - great view of the ocean, large and comfortable sofa, electric jug and tea/coffee facilities were provided. Only con - bed was short even for little 5 foot 5 (165 cm) me. Best thing about the ship - "Solarium" adults' only area with loungers, spas, pools & bar. Much quieter than most areas of ship and had fantastic views. There was no extra charge for this area, unlike many cruise lines. Main theatre entertainment was excellent and varied; including a magician, comedian, Broadway style musical with extravagant sets and costumes, comedy juggler, and a fantastic Vegas style singing group performing Sinatra/Martin/Sammy Davis Jr. Only dud was a 'rock n roll' violinist - this was the only show we walked out of. Food was generally very good. We avoided the crowds in the Windjammer buffet area as much as possible, enjoying traditional dining each night with a well matched group of table buddies. Menus changed nightly (e.g. Mexican night) but some classic items were always available. Breakfast in Solarium area was great and far quieter than the buffet. We had one "specialty" extra cost meal at Jamie's which was good, though not as amazing as we had hoped. Anyway - I think that finally we have found "our happy place", and Royal Caribbean will be out preferred cruise line from now on. :)

Ovation - in SUITE Style to New Zealand
Myself and 2 friends splashed out for Grand Suite to New Zealand. Ship looks in VERY clean condition - given its nearly 10 years old. THe internet is fantastic! Thank you Starlink! There was a few minor dead spots in the middle of the Tasman Sea - to be expected - but was very responsive and able to upload/post on the cruise to social media. Entertainment wise - "Spectras Cabaret' - what the? Fantastic technology in 270 but the whole storyline was a confused mess and Spectra was an androgynous person with limited singing abilities, but backed up by professional dancers. The theme of "What the" carried on through the another show - "The Dreaming" in Royal Theatre. The singing was much better but after 40 minutes we all walked out shaking our heads??? WE did the magnificent 3 sounds in NZ - truly spectacular and the guide who provided the commentary for most of the day was fantastic. Foo at Coastal Kitchen was excellent, so too was the 1 dinner we had at the Main Dining Room - and despite complaints, WIndjammer served good food and lots of choices to keep everybody happy. We enjoyed the "captains Corner" where the Senior staff had open Q&A session with the passengers in 270 and all staff on the stage had been with RC for 15+ years - so they must enjoy their jobs! Unfortunately due to high winds and Port Authorities decision we had to cancel our day at Christchurch and another day at sea, however safety was paramount. All in all an enjoyable cruise - plenty to see, do, eat and drink!
