EJ scores big again
Second trip on EJ as did Explora 2 last Fall and we were blown away by the ship and its crew. Ship is spacious with plenty of public space. Cabins are above normal size and well laid out. Food options are plentiful and quality is right up there with Oceania quality but the use of speciality restaurants vs. a large dining area is a bonus. The Marble&Co restaurant our least favourite as choices somewhat limited. By the far the most popular was Sakura the Asian restaurant. Entertainment options sufficient and show band was very good. the main show lounge is well configured and comfortable and bar is inside so service was quick Gym and spa areas spacious. The crew were more than friendly to guests and really made our voyage memorable. Hosts remembered our names quickly. Embarkation was much smoother than our first EJ cruise. Highly recommend EJ If wish to be spoiled and pampered.

Excellent cruise
I was lucky enough to win this cruise with Explora (thank you Explora Journeys!) and it was extremely good - the best cruise I have ever been on. The ship, Explora 1, is absolutely stunning - very elegant and luxurious. We boarded in Istanbul for a 7 night journey to Milos, Rhodes, Bodrum, Samos and Paros. Boarding was ok - not as quick as with some other cruise lines though to be honest. We had trouble finding the right place to board in Galatos Port and there were insufficient information from Explora about how to find the terminal building. Once on board everything went smoothly. The ship did not feel crowded at all, and there is roughly a 1:1 passenger to staff ratio, so we always felt looked after and taken care of. Our balcony suite was beautifully appointed; the twin beds were very comfortable; the bathroom well designed and fit for purpose. There was a small sofa in the room as well as an outdoor lounger and chairs on the balcony. A free bottle of champagne and wine and little snacks in our stateroom on arrival was a lovely touch. The food onboard was, for the most part very good. Buffet lunch and dinner in the Marketplace in particular were really lovely - plenty of choice and tasty food. We tried all but one of the speciality restaurants on board (we did not try the paid restaurant but others told me it was fabulous) and loved them. The French restaurant was a standout and we ate there three times. The steak restaurant was also very good, as was the Japanese restaurant. Service was extremely friendly and efficient, if a little slow. The afternoon tea was a little disappointing - it suffered from very dry scones and poor coffee. All the drinks and wifi onboard were free which was a great bonus. There are various pools and hot tubs onboard, all of which are lovely and relaxing. We did find it a bit annoying though that people would leave their towels on loungers by the pool for hours on end, and never actually turn up to claim the lounger. This was not policed by the crew members. The entertainment on board was good - although if you are looking for large scale production-type shows, you won't find them on board this ship. However there was plenty of live music, DJs, live entertainers, trivia and game shows (which we loved), information events, movies, and so on. More than enough to keep you occupied and having a good time. All of the crew - called "hosts" on board - were very friendly, efficient and helpful. They simply went out of their way to do what they could to make your cruise memorable and enjoyable. The excursions through the ship are expensive like with most cruise lines; we chose to make our own arrangements mostly everywhere, although we did a cooking class through the ship on the island of Paros which we thoroughly enjoyed even though it was costly. Overall we were extremely impressed with the cruise. I have cruised with many other cruise lines and this was by far the best experience. Well done Explora, and thank you again.

Expectations met .......and exceeded
I cruised Royal Caribbean and Celebrity a while ago , I haven't cruised on any of the other up market brands on the market therefore I have no comparison for Explora but that may be no bad thing , whats wrong with just reviewing in isolation .... I had seen some You Tube videos and read some reviews but so had a bit of an idea , had some context and therefore some expectations. Boarding process was a breeze , entering the suite and getting luggage all seamless Suite was lovely , can't really fault it , all nice palettes and beautifully put together , want to pay more , get a bigger version of the standard The food selection throughout was fantastic as was the quality , all restaurants were great , Sakura was my wife's favourite , I liked them all Service from suite to restaurants to Emporium and pool side was exemplary , the ethos of the staff was consistent throughout , I can't single anyone person out , didn't have a picture with any , just thought they were all well trained and embodied the spirit of the ship The ship never felt busy even on a sea day and I do think they were at near full occupancy , I felt this was wonderful , there was a serenity and calmness that resonated throughout the ship The whole ship has been curated beautifully throughout , I think the design is flawless . If and only if you were nitpicking : A) Poolside food service - I think they want a beach club vibe , well back it up with some food , it was sometimes a pain to get up and go to Emporium when you are all hot and bothered B) No real shady areas so when one seeks sanctuary in a pool side bar area it would be nice if these were air conditioned C) The entertainment didn't really energise the room until later in the cruise when they had the singing group together , they were really good for 45 minutes , the room was full and the slightly annoying cruise director ended their session , they took a break and came back as a duo but the room had emptied and puff the atmosphere gone In conclusion , would I book again , too bloody right I would , I normally find fault and can be harsh if standards and expectations aren't met , in this instance i felt they were exceeded and I think that Explora has executed their plan perfectly in my eyes , ie converting someone back to cruising in a style and fashion that would be hard to match elsewhere , I cannot see myself being exiled to a section of a Celebrity cruise in "The Retreat" , here on Explora you got to enjoy the whole ship , bow to stern !
