Wonderful except for one excursion
Loved the ship. So easy to navigate. Food especially in Palomar restaurant was very good. Small portions but always other options if you were still hungry. Only ever visited the Grill for burgers or veggie burgers and we could always find a table there. Our "go to" for lunch, especially on sea days, was the Indulge. Easy to order from tablet and have food delivered. Food wasn't necessarily delivered in an appetizer/main order so if that's important to you suggest ordering your appetizers, enjoy those then order main course. Delivery is prompt so little delay. You order drinks from wait staff not on the tablet. Whiskey Bar was our favourite cocktail hangout. Benu and Ferdinand were amazing! They worked well together as a team and were a marvel to watch concoct cocktails. Although it was a Whiskey bar, they also had a few vodka and gin options plus wines. We never met our cabin steward and discovered he/she did not leave clock-change cards in our room or final-day disembarkation information or final statement. Room was kept clean and did deliver a robe when requested. Movie options were poor. There were some pay movies available but these weren't much better and primarily children movies. Not an issue on this cruise but something to consider if booking a transatlantic. The Lounge was a wonderful spot for the views and mid-afternoon snacks but very crowded. Menus for the specialty restaurants were available on the TV and on the app however you could only view the complementary dining room menus by visiting one of the restaurants. Syd Norman was very popular. The Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" review was especially popular and you definitely had to get there early for this excellent show. A minor observation- no prizes for trivia. There were however prizes for the very "interesting " and fun events in the atrium. One very bad experience was the Classic Cairo shore excursion from Alexandria to the Pyramids and the old Cairo museum. Advertised as a 12 hour excursion we were over 17 hours. Boarded the bus (1 of 6) at 6 am. The guide immediately began providing "Wikipedia" information. At 7 am we asked why we hadn't left the port. At 7:15 we were advised there was fog on the desert highway (apparently a common occurrence in the fall). Finally at 9 we were asked yo board thd busses. We still sat another 45 minutes. Some passengers discovered they could get a full refund and opted to leave the bus. We finally arrived in Cairo (told we would have supper rather than the scheduled lunch). Visited museum (1 hour 15 minutes); priceed to Pyramids. UNESCO has "taken control" of tourism at the site. Hop on Hop off busses bring tourists to 3 view points. We remained on our bus, drove to the 3vviewvpoints and given basically 10 minutes each (a bit longer at the 2nd location as some guests wanted the 10 minute camel ride for $10 US. The funsl stoo was at ghe Sphinx. We viewed this ftom thd road afyer being told the view from the road was as good as from the ramp (NOT- weve been before). We were given a box lunch and eventually made it to the restaurant. One hour there for an adequate buffet. The issue was that the restaurant st least 20 to 30 drive and gad inadequate washrooms for the 6 bus that all landed at the same time for the one hour supper. The final straw...during one of the Wikipedia information dumps, the guide shared a sheet displaying Egyptian hieroglyphics and proceeded to take orders for cartouches. After 7 pm and after supper , rather than heading back to our ship, we drove through the back streets of Cairo to pick up the orders. This hawking by the guide should never have happened or the cartouches should be delivered to the supper location. Many complaints resulted in a 15% discount credited to our onboard accounts. Our Alexandria excursion the next day "Roman Influence" was excellent.

Don't believe the negative comments.
I nearly decided against booking the Viva for this cruise based on some of the negative reviews. So glad I didn't as I would have missed out on some of the best experiences in my life! Just completed the Istanbul to Athens cruise. Best itinerary I've come across, which is why I booked it. Three days in Istanbul to see what this fabulous city has to offer... and it's a lot! Fabulous mosques, food and shopping. The Basilica Cistern is a must as is the grand bazaar. Then on the boat. First impression. Fabulous. Then off to Kusadassi (Ephesus) which was great. then Cyprus which was also very good and cheap! Then my favourite port, Alexandria, and Egyptian drivers!! If you can get to Egypt on a cruise, DO IT! The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is outstanding and simply a great experience. Then the next day off to Giza and the pyramids. Took a private tour to go to the brand new Grand Egyptian Museum as NCL shore excursion didn't go there and it was closing the next day for the grand opening early November. So lucky. Simply breath taking in size and grandeur. Easily one of the very best in the world. Not to be missed. Then rode a camel around the Pyramids of Giza. As tourist things go, getting to do that was next level cool!! Then visited the Greek Islands of Crete, Santorini and Mykonos, all special in their own right, although as an Aussie, I'll take the North Queensland coast any day as the sparseness of trees and in fact any greenery and very average beaches on the Mediterranean islands was not overly enticing. Now to the ship. I really cant see what the negative reviews are all about. The whole experience for me was super positive. I loved the ship, the food, dining experience and the ambience. As I fit into the ' getting older' bracket it suited me perfectly. As would likely most people over say, 45. Sure, if you want a youthful full-on party boat, this ship's probably not for you (but it's not like there's a shortage of those cruises anywhere) as the myriad of bars and eateries made for much more personalised service. The entertainment, Beetlejuice and Icons were outstanding. Never had a bad meal, always beautifully presented and quickly served and such a choice!! Even the surfside cafe was fine. Take your pick there's plenty to choose from. The amount of wait staff ensured a super smooth service. Le-Bistro being the standout. Took the 'more-at-sea' package and even though, I'm not a big drinker, I found it to be worthwhile, even if our pitiful Aussie Dollar made it much more expensive!! My balcony cabin was perfectly acceptable, a good size and very quiet, never heard neighbours, either on the side or above/below I really don't know what those who complain about the food, service or amenities are on about. But then again I don't have unrealistic expectations. Everything I saw and experienced was fabulous... well except for the very long line to get off Santorini!! Sill, you can't please everyone. Thoroughly enjoyed!
We loved the ship. It was very clean and nicely cared for. The decor is great! My favorite Bar was the Whiskey Bar. Fernando and his partner took great care of us! The hibachi grill is a must! Extremely entertaining! If you go to Crete, rent a buggy and drive up the mountain roads for amazing views! The shows could use some work, press your luck was cheesy and felt very staged. Most of the specialty restaurants are great, but the included dining is edible, but somewhat boring and bland. Our favorite was the steakhouse and the hibachi. The hibachi chefs all sing 80’s rock songs while cooking and it was very entertaining! The pools were clean and well kept and the casino is fun and smoke free. All of the bars are great with delicious cocktails, but like I said, The Whiskey Bar was our absolute favorite! Happy Sailing!
