Wonderful Cruise to Norwegian Fjords & Shetland

Cruising from Liverpool gave us the opportunity to arrive a day early and spend some hours site seeing around Liverpool prior to boarding which went smoothly; parked car in Liverpool One luggage sent directly to Bolette. The ship is beautiful not to glitzy but plenty of Art Deco design with many different areas to relax. We were on the promenade deck mid ships perfect good size cabin, just one niggle only one 3 pin socket. You can either have two single beds or move them together as a double. The ship is very quiet when under way at 16 knots; on our cruise the sea was very calm and the weather brilliant. The Fjords were amazing, snow capped mountings beautiful scenery and waterfalls. The two formal nights were great with cocktails and canopies. If you like music there is something for everyone, classical, Jazz, pop and piano in different locations/bars on deck 5. Dancing on smaller dance floors worked well. Activities were ongoing throughout the 9 days, also the main pool with its retracting roof was great a second outside pool was smaller but ideal. Fred Olsen staff are amazing extremely helpful and always very happy. We were on a table for 6 in the Bloomsbury restaurant and the food each day was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend this cruise with Fred Olsen at this time of the year. Sunsets at 11:30pm were brilliant.

Super service, stunning ports and exceptional food

Brilliant cruise! It was my first time sailing on the Bollette having previously only been on the Balmoral in Fred Olsen's fleet and with family members who had been on the Borealis. The selection of entertainment was brilliant with beautiful music, funny performances and great choreography. The food is to such a high standard with a great variety and food at all times of the day. The staff worked so hard to ensure we were taken care of, being so accommodating and making us really feel at home on the ship. The ship has great areas for entertainment and relaxation while keeping that intimate feel and lacking the chaos of the larger cruise lines. The ports were super locations and the excursions on offer were well tailored. A huge shout out to all the staff for a brilliant experience, we will definitely be sailing with Fred Olsen for our future holidays.

106 Nights World Cruise - Absolutely Amazing

My wife and I sailed on the Bolette 106 Night Grand Voyage Cruise and we had an absolute blast. We've cruised many times before, but this was our first World cruise. The Itinerary attracted us so much that we gathered our savings together and, with a little intrepidation, as it was our first ever time with Fred.Olsen, we paid our money and hoped for the best. One of the best decisions that I have ever made. Itinerary This trip took us from Southampton to the Southern Hemisphere via Portugal. We went to several ports on the Eastern coast of that continent then around the Southern waters of Chile and up the west coast then headed to wonderful island destinations like Tonga and Robinson Crusoe, all the way to Sydney. 4 ports in Oz, then across the Indian ocean to Mauritious, Reunion, and the South Africa. Then up the West coast to a few more African ports, the Canaries and Madiera and home. Wonderful. Activities We are both just over 60, so still enjoy keeping fit and we luckily are still very energetic and very mobile. There was a very good and well, maintained Gym, a promenade deck that enabled you to walk miles round and round in fresh air. Apart from those things that we enjoyed, to keep active, there was so much else to do, like enrichment programs, arts and crafts lessons, cards, deck games, both organised and self service (Table tennis was very popular and people were on the 2 tables all day), star gazing with an expert, a cinema, 2 pools, daily quizzes, quiet reading /library room, a bunch of puzzles that everyone could participate in completing over the weeks, I honestly can't list all of the things that were available almost every day. If you were bored it really was your own fault on this cruise. Excursions There were many & varied port day excursions to suit most pockets. Fred's offerings were cheaper than other cruise lines that we have taken. We also did a fair few trips with local firms, mainly via Viatours. Food Very very good. That's all I need to say. Service Probably the best service of any cruise that we have sailed on, and we have cruised with the very expensive lines too. The staff soon know your name, your drink, your sense of humour and whether you are a more serious person or fun loving, they treat each guest perfectly. They are just superb and became our friends around the pool (especially at the aft pool bar). Cabin We had a balcony on deck 6. This is a 20 odd year old ship but even so, it had everything that you needed, was clean and well maintained. There was ample storage, and tea and coffee facilities and a fridge. Air-conditioning was good too and not noisy. Dining We always choose to dine 2nd sitting and also opt for a big table as we like meeting new people. As the voyage was sub divided into 3 stages, we gained and lost a few people on our Table of 8, some dissembarked in Sydney, to be replaced with others, the same happened in CapeTown. You meet so many interesting people and learn different points of view from so many other people's experiences, especially on 106 nights where you get past the superficial small talk of shorter cruises. Entertainment The entertainments team were excellent, and put on wonderful shows. Fred also brought on board several new acts every couple of weeks which meant that every night was a new and fresh show, singers, pianists, violinists, magicians, groups, (big shout out for the Everly brothers tribute). As usual the shows in the theatre were on twice, once after each dining sitting. They also put on wonderful themed events on The pool decks such as Tropical Night, Mardi Gras, country and Western, James Bond, 70's, Masquerade etc. We were surprised just how many people came prepared with lots of really good fancy dress stuff, so much so that after the first theme night, we stocked up with extra props at the next port, so that we could come up to scratch. As well as the evening entertainment, there were some really fun days, again the entertainment team excelled in putting on some really enjoyable events, apparently it is perfectly normal to kiss a dead fish when crossing the equator or dateline or whatever it was. The wife has the photos to prove I did it. For those of us that like a late night, after the show, and after the various excellent singers and pianists in the bars around the ship, there was the resident band that played in the Observatory Lounge on the top deck. They were a good laugh and interacted warmly with the 50 or so faces that would find their way up there until midnight, after that the disco would start, where the hardy few would sit and ponder, one more drink or not? Fellow Cruisers The demographic was almost entirely British, plus a party of about 40 Norwegians that were great and joined in much of the events. Two of them were Greta and Ole, they were very good company at our Table and we have fond memories of our time with them. We met amazing people, 4 couples of which we still keep in touch with and really those guys were such fun. We're taking another cruise in the spring with one of the couples that we met. Having read my review, before posting, I have to add, and emphasise, that there were plenty of sedate things that passengers could partake in, such as ballroom dancing and Bridge in quieter areas of the ship, so it really does cater for all. Disembarkation A very simple experience, the usual process of being called to leave according to your coloured luggage tags. No drama. Final thoughts After 106 nights , as you can imagine, I have struggled not to go into too much detail or I would have written a book. But to sum up our experience; On our last night, someone asked if would I do a World Cruise again? I replied, "I would stay on here and go round again right now if it was on offer". Thank you Fred Olsen.

Excellent Experience

Great cruise round Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Excellent service in everything. They especially look after solo travelers well. Excellent food. Only suggestion I have for improvement is to allow waiting list people in to first sitting if , after two or three nights original bookers have not shown up. There were a lot of empty places in first sitting and people couldn’t get allocated to it. Most trips were well organized except the hugely expensive (£200) outing to the Sky Lagoon. It would have been much better to do it independently. (Others did organize it themselves) The guide told us nothing about Iceland and seemed more interested in the fact that we were travelling on to Faroe Islands. But when we reached Sky Lagoon the Seven Step Ritual was a dream. There were about three quizzes a day and generally well attended- get there early if you want to be sure of a place. The gym sessions were good and not over subscribed.
