Northern European City Cruise
Lovely ship and we booked a conservatory mini suite on deck 9. Do NOT book one on deck 8 as everybody walks past and looks in your balcony and rooms. Food great and only real gripe is that you have to book Headliners theatre via app. Always shown as fully booked but never was in practice. Passengers mostly ignored the MDR booking app and turned up in mostly couples regardless. When will P&O learn it is not popular with their loyal customers ? Entertainment was good apart from 6 in a quiz team rule. Most think it should be 4 and I have complained about this before. Excursions were great and we had booked in advance for each day. Destinations Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Bruges. English spoken everywhere. We had priority booking for the first time and that was quite fast. Great cruise all in and was a repeat of 2022 identical cruise. No big names on board and never saw any officers around the ship. Loved walking the promenade deck especially when windy.

Awesome trip, with great views.
This was my first cruise, and my last holiday having been a bit of a disaster I went with my dad. We were both very happy with the service on the ship. Some of the waiters really seemed passionate about their jobs, and couldn't do enough for us. The sail into and out of Olden made the cruise for me. I went with the main aim of seeing the fjords and they certainly delivered on that front. We didn't do any of the P and O excursions, but the announcements always told us what we needed to know to do our own thing. There was so much to do, I almost want to do another trip just to try more things! Our cabin was Starboard with a window that was good for people watching when we docked starboard side on. We watched the Olden sailaway from the deck though as we wanted to hear it to. Good size, not that we spent much time there. Embarking I didn't like the queue, but it moved reasonably well. We used CPS for parking very impressed with that setup Ate in the Keel and Cow twice for dinner, the steak was amazing! My only complaint would be sometimes Vistas the coffee bar was a bit slow and often people would turn up and get service straight away even though you'd been waiting ages.

Iona August 2025
First cruise on the Iona - actually 3rd time lucky because we booked for the Maiden voyage, but then covid struck, and the next one was cancelled. So here we were celebrating our 35th wedding anni and my wife's 64th birthday, and our friends' 50th wedding anniversary. Now I am not really a great cruise fan but I was always wanting to experience the Norwegian fjords and the Iona seemed an ideal way to tick the bucket list. My wife and her friend Joan are big cruise fans so we went along for the ride so to speak. Drove down from the Midlands and had prebooked the Chilworth Manor hotel for the Friday night, wanting a quick meal we found a really handy Chinese restaurant named the Water Margin around a mile from the hotel. The waiter said the tables were all allocated, unless we could be done by 2000. We only wanted a main course so it worked fine for us. Saturday morning, breakfast then a gentle drive to the port. We had requested assistance and everything worked just fine, with our bags taken straight to our cabins on deck 16. Our assist hosts took us to deck 7 to "log in" for our "Virtual drill" then we went up to deck 16 and found our cabins. The Iona is a wonderful ship, particularly on our deck, and we were near to the lifts if we needed them and were a stroll from the buffet restaurant etc. Now I have ticked 5 blobs as excellent, and yes the Iona is a great ship, apart from just one issue - the reservation system for booking the restaurants. In my view it needs an overhaul or rethink because virtual queuing on a ship of this capacity doesn't really do it justice. We chose the Opal or the Pearl (cant remember which) and joined the virtual queue for it. Then made our way down in the lifts and the walk, but when we arrived we were told it would be 60-90 minutes wait. However, looking beyond the host, half the tables were empty. This was repeated several times over the week and frankly was a little disappointing. I put it down to P&O enforcing a computer based system, which the vast majority of crew seemed to rigidly stick to, which was really ironic when considering how we managed a table at the Water Margin restaurant in Chilworth on Friday. That host offered us a "quick table" and managed to get himself extra covers out of the table which otherwise would have not been used for two hours. My advice to anyone considering the Iona - try and plan your dining ion advance - something you obviously don't really want to do if you are on holiday. The only other comment I would offer is that the TV in the cabin provides lots and lots of really useful information - great. However it seems to refer the guests to the paper based daily which is obviously printed the previous day and could be out of date by the time it is placed outside the cabins the previous evening. The TV screen can display bang up to the minute information to every single guest - if P&O chose to update it. I sense that it is too "fixed" and needs a little more customisation. As an example we were cruising across the North Sea and into Norway. It would have been really great to have zoomed into the Norwegian map and seen our journey in more detail, especially as the majority of guests would probably be quite familiar with the UK and would be more interested in the country they were sailing to, particularly the Fjords. Disembarking was really easy and we chose to push our own bags rather than seek assistance. We went down to deck 7 at about 0730 and disembarked quite swiftly, walked over to the car, got in and drove home. Final tip make sure the person in your party who is "in control" !!!! makes sure their watch is switched back to UK time at 0200 on the disembarkation day. My wife could have had an extra hour's sleep !!! Great ship P&O and some really great staff - Thank you
