6-10 Cruises: 60s
Cold Pacific Ocean, San Fran, and Catalina Island
Embarkation terminal in Vancouver Canada was good but not excellent. Easy cheap Metro ride from airport to seaport, and just a couple city blocks from Metro exit to Cruise terminal entrance. Cruise terminal involved a lot of zigzag lines and escalotors. Nice thing is that US Customs and Immigration with my passport was all accomplished there in the Vancouver cruise terminal, and I didn't need to pull out my passport again. Upon embarking, I met Activity Staff Natalia, who was teaching the dance classes. She even picked me to help demonstrate as her partner in teaching merengue dance moves. I met Fitness directors Sharma and Prashant. I was nervous and afraid that they might not be as good as the personal trainer I had on Caribbean Princess on my previous cruise, but, they were very good. Director Prashant was very good in pushing me through the tough fitness workout classes. I already am sorely missing his fitness direction at my home gym. I still can hear his direction in my ear while working out. The stewards have been wonderful. Stateroom Steward Walter has anticipated my every need, even before I knew that I needed it. On the third day, he provided me with a spa robe, and I had not even asked him for a spa robe. Stateroom Steward Bonny was not assigned to my stateroom, as he was assigned to rooms further along the same corridor; but, he helped as a secondary steward. The martini cocktail demonstration was worth it. It was informative, fun, and quenched my thirst! Bar Steward Saidul taught me how to improve my usual morning Lavazza espresso beverage with various top-shelf liqueurs. I thank Saidul for rescuing me from trauma at the International Café when Utility Beverage Att Abhishek advised me that hazelnut syrup was not available, and I was making do with French Vanilla syrup, and then Abhishek collaborated with Saidul to concoct the correct morning beverage with me. I mean, Caribbean Princess is not the biggest ship, and Lavazza is not the same as Illy, but Abhishek and Saidul went above and beyond to deal with the limited circumstances and actually meet and exceed my admittedly snobby coffee attitude. (I am a coffee snob, I’ve enjoyed coffee from the finest places in the world, and I’m not afraid to say so.) Saidul taught me a lot. Oh, I can’t forget Bar Steward Bikas. Somehow, Bikas got in on the action, and he helped me organize my flavored coffee consumption, as well. I bore most people with my stories about how Nepalese coffee is the best in the world; but, not Bikas. Bikas listened to me and explained it all to me. I dined every night at specialty restaurant Sabatini’s. Buffet Steward Taycir, (the reincarnation of Claudia Cardinale,) got me a perfectly situated table every night, even when the phone app reservation system failed me. Mario, the Restaurant Manager, had orchestrated a perfect dining experience for me. Waiters Alvin, Roland, Chris, Jonathan, and Jed fell over each other to rush and wait on me and carefully explain all the menu food options and ingredients and methods of preparation to me. Sommelier Kuda was very helpful in having me taste and decide among Chianti Classico, Pinot Nero, and Cabernet. Sommelier Kuda never let my wine glass go empty I got my breakfast and lunch at International Café and Vines at the Piazza on Deck 5. The crew there provide exceptional service. The Black Forest Cake was a tasty treat, recommended by Miss Leolita. Buffet Steward Crystal also helped provide high energy service in the Piazza area and even joined me in an arming dance in Piazza. I got nearly overflowing pours of Crement all the time at Vines by the crew there, Utility Dining Att Salman. I happened upon a kitchen galley tour, after a fitness class with Director Prashant, one of the best fitness directors I’ve ever had, and I got into the end of the conga line into the kitchen galley, toured the galley, and I was deeply touched by the overwhelming heartfelt music entertainment provided by the galley crew. The crew even gave me chocolates and ice cream, and I was so touched by how nice they were to me that I felt breathless and I had Utility Dining Att Salman help me find a chair in Vines to sit down and catch my breath and eat my ice cream. Salman watched over me until I regained my composure and then he hurried along with his normal duties. In the galley, I met with Executive Chef Fabrizio Fazzini and Director of Restaurant Operations Silvio Zampieri. Entertainment in the big auditorium Princess Theater was a miss. Only one show interested me, the Lionel Ritchie show, but it was full when I got there ten minutes before show-time, and , because it was not a Princess production show, there was no reserved seating for Premier passengers, so that wasn't worth it for that. I was told to either stand in the back or come to the later show, but I did neither. The other entertainment musicians in the Piazza and the Wheelhouse bar were good. I’ve cruised MSC a few times, and I am used to Italian food. It seems to me that Princess has poached the best Italians in the food and beverage industry and brought them over to Princess. The pizza on Caribbean Princess is better than on MSC, because the pizza maker used to work for MSC and now works for Princess, and the pizza at Slice is made by him with dough using Caputo flour sourced from Naples, Italy, and it really is very good Naples quality crust with options of classic American toppings and creative European toppings. Another review tidbit on Sabatini’s. Before eating at Sabatini’s, I had heard from fellow passenger onboard who had lived in Italy, and also read from online cruise critics who love Italian food, that Sabatini’s lasagna is the best lasagna they have ever eaten anytime anywhere in the world, period. So, I was curious, to find out if the Sabatini’s lasagna really was the Non Sequitur in lasagna. I ordered it and the waiter explained to me the specially calculated combination of ingredients. I ate it. I almost lifted the plate to lick it clean. It really was the last word in lasagna.

Awesome!
Sailing to Alaska aboard the Caribbean Princess was an unforgettable experience filled with breathtaking scenery and warm hospitality. The ship itself offered a comfortable balance of classic charm and modern amenities, making it easy to relax after long days of exploring. My stateroom was clean and well-kept, with attentive service that made me feel welcome from day one. The highlight, of course, was Alaska’s stunning landscapes—towering glaciers, rugged mountains, and wildlife sightings that felt straight out of a documentary. Excursions were well-organized, offering opportunities to see local culture and nature up close. Onboard, dining options were plentiful, with everything from casual bites to elegant dinners, and the entertainment in the evenings kept the atmosphere lively. What stood out most was the staff’s dedication to making every detail smooth and enjoyable. Whether it was a friendly greeting in the hallway or helpful guidance during excursions, their professionalism elevated the trip. Overall, the cruise exceeded expectations and left me eager to return.

Gorgeous views and great relaxation!
This was our first cruise and was absolutely wonderful! We had a mini-suite with balcony, which also had a sofa bed for our son, and also got the Plus package that included drinks, wifi, gratuities, and a few other benefits, which was well worth it. Having our own balcony was invaluable when it came to viewing the glaciers during the last two days of the cruise (and of course for other times when we just wanted to chill outside in our own private space). All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. The drinks (taking full advantage of our unlimited options) were not very strong (alcohol) which was probably for the best. The food options were very good, but the quality was just average at best with a few very good exceptions. Following the pre-cruise instructions including ordering the Medallion in advance made the embarkation process very efficient. We also did a shore excursion in each port and waited for an excursion sale to happen before booking them, saving lots of money. There is a lot of entertainment and things to do on board (we couldn't even get to everything we wanted to), so there was never any boredom even on sea days. We would absolutely do this cruise again.
