Don't believe the negative comments.
I nearly decided against booking the Viva for this cruise based on some of the negative reviews. So glad I didn't as I would have missed out on some of the best experiences in my life! Just completed the Istanbul to Athens cruise. Best itinerary I've come across, which is why I booked it. Three days in Istanbul to see what this fabulous city has to offer... and it's a lot! Fabulous mosques, food and shopping. The Basilica Cistern is a must as is the grand bazaar. Then on the boat. First impression. Fabulous. Then off to Kusadassi (Ephesus) which was great. then Cyprus which was also very good and cheap! Then my favourite port, Alexandria, and Egyptian drivers!! If you can get to Egypt on a cruise, DO IT! The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is outstanding and simply a great experience. Then the next day off to Giza and the pyramids. Took a private tour to go to the brand new Grand Egyptian Museum as NCL shore excursion didn't go there and it was closing the next day for the grand opening early November. So lucky. Simply breath taking in size and grandeur. Easily one of the very best in the world. Not to be missed. Then rode a camel around the Pyramids of Giza. As tourist things go, getting to do that was next level cool!! Then visited the Greek Islands of Crete, Santorini and Mykonos, all special in their own right, although as an Aussie, I'll take the North Queensland coast any day as the sparseness of trees and in fact any greenery and very average beaches on the Mediterranean islands was not overly enticing. Now to the ship. I really cant see what the negative reviews are all about. The whole experience for me was super positive. I loved the ship, the food, dining experience and the ambience. As I fit into the ' getting older' bracket it suited me perfectly. As would likely most people over say, 45. Sure, if you want a youthful full-on party boat, this ship's probably not for you (but it's not like there's a shortage of those cruises anywhere) as the myriad of bars and eateries made for much more personalised service. The entertainment, Beetlejuice and Icons were outstanding. Never had a bad meal, always beautifully presented and quickly served and such a choice!! Even the surfside cafe was fine. Take your pick there's plenty to choose from. The amount of wait staff ensured a super smooth service. Le-Bistro being the standout. Took the 'more-at-sea' package and even though, I'm not a big drinker, I found it to be worthwhile, even if our pitiful Aussie Dollar made it much more expensive!! My balcony cabin was perfectly acceptable, a good size and very quiet, never heard neighbours, either on the side or above/below I really don't know what those who complain about the food, service or amenities are on about. But then again I don't have unrealistic expectations. Everything I saw and experienced was fabulous... well except for the very long line to get off Santorini!! Sill, you can't please everyone. Thoroughly enjoyed!
We loved the ship. It was very clean and nicely cared for. The decor is great! My favorite Bar was the Whiskey Bar. Fernando and his partner took great care of us! The hibachi grill is a must! Extremely entertaining! If you go to Crete, rent a buggy and drive up the mountain roads for amazing views! The shows could use some work, press your luck was cheesy and felt very staged. Most of the specialty restaurants are great, but the included dining is edible, but somewhat boring and bland. Our favorite was the steakhouse and the hibachi. The hibachi chefs all sing 80’s rock songs while cooking and it was very entertaining! The pools were clean and well kept and the casino is fun and smoke free. All of the bars are great with delicious cocktails, but like I said, The Whiskey Bar was our absolute favorite! Happy Sailing!

Fabulous Cruise Experience on Norwegian Viva
We travelled with another couple and we all loved our experience on the Norwegian Viva. We had 7 nights to spare between an Egypt tour and a Paris stay, and there were only two cruises available to fit our schedule. We picked Norwegian Viva because the ship was new and interesting, the emphasis on quality music and entertainment suited us, and the dining options looked pretty good. We didn't quite believe the 3.1 review rating average was accurate and in our view it wasn't - we had a exceptional cruise experience. It's a beautiful ship and while it's quite large we never had the feeling of being crowded. Highlights for us included the general quality of the ship, the great music and entertainment in various venues around the ship, the fabulous Hudson Dining Room with it's incredible setting at the rear of the ship which all seemed too good to be included in the standard cruise price, and our dining experiences in Cagney's and Onda which were exceptional. Our room was a Club Balcony Suite towards the rear of the ship and it was excellent. We did the 7 night Greek Isles/Eastern Med trip with no sea days so we were quite busy on shore trips and didn't have time to sample all the games and rides on board. Being a Mediterranean cruise there was a mixed passenger demographic which was great (we're Aussies) and everyone had plenty of fun while being respectful of other passengers. As mentioned in other reviews the ship design is a bit different to many other ships as it has smaller entertainment and dining venues spread around ship, and while it doesn't appeal to some we loved the concept. Overall we had a fabulous time on Norwegian Viva and we very would happily do it all again.
