2-5 Cruises: 60s
Had a Great Time
Celebrity Cruises My wife and I had a great time. Some background. I’m 64, my wife is 54. From New York City. Traveled in October in the eastern Mediterranean. Our second and third cruises, respectively. Never one as long as this, 10 days. We sailed on the Equinox. We were amongst the younger passengers on the ship. Most people, I would guess, were in their late 60s through 70s. Not many children. School is in in October. Food - massive amounts of food. Pretty good quality. A large variety. Mostly European and American food. We tried to curb our eating but it’s very tough. Main dining hall was pleasant and classy. We sat with two strangers who became our friends. Everyone is in a good mood. Service is excellent. The buffet is very crowded for breakfast. Tables need to be searched for. We had three specialty meals (Tuscan, Murano, Le Petit Chef). All were excellent. Better than the main dining hall. Manhattan style dining. Staterooms - definitely large enough for the two of us. Slightly smaller than a basic motel room. TV with limited channels. A handful of football games available on the weekend. Plenty of storage. We were able to empty out our luggage easily and still have walking space. The bathroom was large enough for two to brush teeth at same time. Activities- we didn’t participate in many activities. Just not our style. But there were dozens of things to do daily. Most free of an extra charge. We did go to the show in the theater every night. Pretty high quality, I thought. A magician, a few solo performers, a good house band, singers and dancers. My wife loved it. Shout out to cruise director, Rich. Music available pretty much all the time. Mostly American. 1980s to modern plus some light jazz. I felt the performers were of high quality. Excursions - we didn’t do any of the ship excursions, either booking our own or going out on our own. Except for Olympia when I overpaid I was satisfied with my choices. Getting off and on the ship were easy and without hassle. Overall, I’d recommend Celebrity, the Equinox, and cruising. The staff works hard but remains pleasant and helpful. The “adventure” is fun but safe. Enjoy your trip

10+ Cruises: 60s
Celebrity Equinox, Spain, Portugal and Morocco
This cruise on Celebrity Equinox reminded us why we fell in love with Celebrity Cruises in 2017, on Celebrity Solstice. My wife and I are in our sixties, and this was only our 7th cruise with celebrity, 11th cruise in total. The weather was perfect! Sunshine almost all the time with highs ranging between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius. We sailed in a mid ship cabin, deck 10, Concierge Class. Our experience: Boarding the ship in Barcelona was a breeze. We arrived at the pier at 10h55 am (our boarding time was 11h) and by 11h08 we were on board, sipping our first glass of bubbly. Our cabin was ready at about 1:30 pm. ( we were allowed to go in upon embarking to drop our bags and get our room keys). Our cabin was very clean, welcoming and quiet. Our cabin attendant was attentive and brought us requested extra pillows, and an extension cord for cpap machine. During the cruise, he was like a magic mouse that came in and made sure our cabin was always perfect two or three times a day. Concierge Class perks: on this cruise, they included at least a bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us in our cabin, a daily platter of cheese, lunch in the main dining room on embarkation day, a sail away invitation on the helipad in Lisbon, an officer meeting in the Sky Lounge with participation to a free draw. The food: We chose Any Time Dining for the first time: Wow!!! With the exception of three nights when we ate at Specialty restaurants, we were able to always eat at table 531 ( a table for 2) of the Main Dining Room called Silhouette. Our server, assistant server and sommelier provided excellent service, always with a smile and professionalism. Our server always had a daily menu item to offer which was not on the printed menu, and provided us with excellent suggestions, when at time we were opting for a dish that could be different than expected. Our sommelier remembered our wine choice ( white for my wife and red for me) and made sure our glasses were never empty. We really enjoy the food in the Silhouette Dining Room. Presentation, temperature, taste and quantity always excellent! We never left feeling hungry! We also ate a few times at the Ocean View Cafe. (Buffet restaurant). The food was well presented and good, especially the made to order pasta and omelettes. However, this is always a more chaotic environment. We always found a table, although not always easily. Murano: wow! We had the Chateaubriand for two! It was a first for me! Delicious! Impeccable service! Sushi on Five! Another wow! The menu is a bit different, and the staff was keen to help us and even to teach my wife how to eat with the sticks!!! Food was excellent and we had a fabulous experience! Tuscan Grill. We had a nice table near the rear window, overlooking the ship’s wake. We did enjoy the good service, the good food and overall experience, but of the three specialty restaurants, it was our least favorite, and I am not exactly sure why. A little something missing. The bars: Traditionally, on Celebrity, our favorite spots were the Cafe Al Bacio and the Martini bar, both victims of their incredible success!!! Which at times, makes it difficult to find a seat. At Al Bacio, we had to sit across near Sushi on five and the Cafe al Bacio manager ensured that we received prompt service. At the Martini bar, my wife discovered the snowflake martini, now her favorite, while I remain faithful to the cucumber martini ( I don’t remember its official name) This said, we were able to discover more in depth four other bars: The World Class Bar: wow! cocktails and service in that bar are pure magic!!! The Ensemble Lounge bar, with its subdued and soft ambiance and superb service! The Passport Bar, excellent service and always so calm! And of course, the SkyLounge Bar, beautiful and relaxing are at the front of the ship, with its reduced Zodiac menu ( half the zodiac signs) (other normal drinks are available) and good service. The entertainment: Rich was our best Cruise Director to date! He was everywhere! Extremely friendly and down to earth!!! Bravo!!! We attended about 5 shows and they were all very Entertaining! The Celebrity crew of singers and dancers performed an excellent job, for example in Euphoria ( the sound was not overly high pitched). Guess stars Matt McGurk ( magician) , Max Anthony (as Elton John), and the Chernov Brothers (aerialists, musicians, percussionists and comedians) all performed very well! The segment where one of the Chernov Brothers came out as a clown with a whistle was particularly hilarious although he did not say a single word!!! Other activities we participated in were well run and fun. They included Deal or no Deal, safe archery, dart tournament, and various trivia games etc. Officers and crew: In my opinion, and to my recollection, I have never met so many officers so often during a cruise! A particular bravo to Rich ( Cruise Director) and Mario ( Hotel Director). The crew: fantastic!!! Excellent everywhere!!! Bravo and thank-you all!!! Ports of call: We only chose to Celebrity Excursions. The on board organisation to send us on our excursions ran smoothly. Cadiz. ( Flamenco Show 4 hours) This excursion included a small walking tour, a stop in a restaurant where the Flamenco show was held, and a small bus scenic drive. The Flamenco show was held in a crowded a atmosphere, but was excellent and the snack/drink were also excellent! Our guide for the walking tour and bus drive…. Was speaking on a monotone…. Which put most passengers to sleep on the bus, including me. (may be, because of the jet lag also) Lisbon Tuk-Tuk ( 4 hours) It was a really fun tour and our driver was excellent!!! We could hear all of his explanations very well and it was very interesting. The stop at a restaurant for a snack…. Well the staff was not ready for the size of our group, was inattentive and fully disinterested. Luckily, it was a very short stop. Evening with FADO ( 4 hours) A small walking tour with a FADO show in a restaurant. Our guide was exceptional, funny and knowledgeable! The FADO show was a unique experience, which we loved! Food at the restaurant was not included, but was delicious! A drink was included in the tour and we were served generously. Full day tour Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra on a Monday. (8 hours) This was, sadly, a poorly planned tour! Our guide was better than our Cadiz guide mentioned above, but not by much. After a fairly long bus drive, we arrived in Cascais, in a beautiful area, however our stop there was fairly short, so we did not have time to really explore anything significant ( from memory, we had may be half an hour) We then drove to Sintra, another beautiful area and were dropped near a palace. Again, with only 50 minutes to spare, we did not have enough time to enjoy the area. The highlight of the tour was the lunch at Quinta Do Olival! Food and service were absolutely excellent. Then we were dropped in Lisbon, for one hour, our longest stop, in front of a beautiful church and monastery which … were closed on Mondays! Soo, we spent our time walking in a garden and visiting a high rise monument ( not included in the tour) with a nice panoramic view. Porto (Douro Valley) ( 8 hours) Definitely and by far our best tour! Excellent, funny and animated guide! Despite the long bus ride, it was a beautiful experience! First stop, the beautiful town of Amarante, near the church of St-Gonçalo. Pristine little church, with an interesting history. It’s located near a river with an old stone bridge, and near charming little boutiques and pastry shops. Next stop, in the Douro Valley, in the village of Alijo (I believe) at the winery Quinta da Avessada. A guide gave us a tour of the winery while we could taste some of their products including porto, and moscadel wines. We had a delicious lunch there with excellent service. We brought back home, delicious souvenirs! Really nice experience!!! Tangiers. ( Tetoueg and Tangiers 8 hours) We were definitely brought outside of our comfort zone. It was our first experience in a place that is different than the occidental world we live in. A lot of beautiful moments! We first visited the Medina of Tetoueg, with its small street, unique architecture and decors. We saw in the same day, catholic churches, entered a synagogue with a 250 years old Torah, and saw the inside of a mosque. Walking down the narrow streets where vendors sold everything from food to jewelry and clothes. Definitely an experience to remember. We had an excellent lunch of poulet tagine in a very unique restaurant where service and music were excellent. Then we went to the Casbah of Tangiers. Similar yet slightly different than Tetoueg. Still beautiful though. This said, be prepared for extremely pushy sale process where bargaining is a must. Extremely different from my western world experience. So this concludes our review of a wonderful cruise on Celebrity Equinox.

6-10 Cruises: 50s
No better way to cruise Spain, Portugal, Morocco.
The weather couldn’t have been better for this cruise. Dh and I loved our cruise on Equinox in inside room. Room was a good size and the two chairs, rather than a sofa, made for extra room. Liked the aft location. At times there was noise that seemed like engine, but could sleep. Could hear neighbors tv next door. Enjoyed each port, especially Barcelona (stayed 3 days prior) Seville and Lisbon. Awesome to learn the history and the pictures, especially Tangier, were amazing. We booked Spain Day tours (Barcelona, Seville, Lisbon) and Tours by Locals (Tangier) and it was a lot, but we didn’t want to miss a thing. You may be able to do it on your own. Porto, in particular, we think is easily done on your own. For Lisbon, we saw Cascais and Sintra, as well. Loved Sintra, other highlights were Montserrat and Palau Güell in Barcelona. I learned more about Gaudi’s architectural style at Palau Guell than any other place, including La Sagrada Família, and it is cheap, quick, easy to do on your own. Service and dining all as expected with Celebrity and we are satisfied customers. The big entertainer for this cruise, a magician, had a family emergency, but the CD and the one for the next cruise, Matt McGurk came to rescue and was like nothing ever happened. The singers/dancers were highly talented. Celebrity has really stepped up in this area. My only criticism is the price of excursions if purchased through Celebrity’s vendor. Way over priced. Don’t let them scare you. Just use a local provider. They WILL get you back at half the price. BTW, we purchased the Extend Your Stay package at half price. (Watch for promotions) It allowed us to stay on the boat until 3pm on disembarkation day. It includes use of services on the boat and wifi, but note they only promise them (like wifi) after 11AM. We didn’t have to leave our room until 8:30am. Got free coffee at Cafe AlBacio and found our first seat there the whole cruise (lol.) I think alcohol also included but didn’t use as we left at 12:30pm and couldn’t stomach alcohol that early. Still relaxing on the boat, using the track to walk, breakfast and lunch, not having to wait so long to check in at the airport was worth $35/person. Highly recommend this cruise and find that Celebrity is a good fit for couples or groups of adults in their 40’s plus.
