Yes. Contact the cruise line or your travel adviser as soon as possible after booking, using the line's special-dietary-needs or accessibility process. Explain the allergy clearly, including its severity and any foods or ingredients that must be avoided. Policies and notice periods vary, so check the cruise line's current guidance before travelling.

Speak to the maître d', restaurant manager or onboard dining team early in the cruise. They can explain which venues may be suitable, discuss available dishes and advise how to request allergen-conscious meals. It is sensible to remind staff about the allergy at each meal, especially if dining arrangements or restaurants change.

Many cruise lines can accommodate common dietary requirements, but the available options differ by ship, itinerary, restaurant and ingredient supply. Staff may be able to adapt a dish or prepare a separate meal when given advance notice. Buffet food can be more difficult to assess because utensils, serving areas and ingredients may be shared, so ask staff for guidance rather than relying only on labels.

Dining teams may use separate preparation areas, clean equipment or freshly prepared dishes where available, but procedures are not identical across cruise lines and venues. No food service can guarantee that a meal is completely free from allergens. Ask detailed questions about ingredients and preparation, and do not eat anything if you are unsure about its suitability.

Pack any prescribed emergency medication, such as adrenaline auto-injectors, in your hand luggage and keep it accessible throughout the journey. Bringing suitable snacks can also be helpful, particularly for shore excursions, port days or unexpected changes. Follow your clinician's advice, check the cruise line's rules for bringing food onboard and tell your travelling companions how to respond in an emergency.
