Gibraltar

The Rock of Gibraltar is located at the entrance of the Mediterranean. Its strategic location and history have made it an international symbol of solidity and strength, and its name frequently features in the world press and media.

Gibraltar has been a British Territory since 1704 and is a self-governing British Overseas Territory.  It has a vibrant history as well as being the home of some wonderful wildlife.   The tax free shopping in Gibraltar makes it a real pleasure with the duty free status that Gibraltar enjoys.  Whale Watching in the Strait is a must as Gibraltar is a place of diverse nature. Whales in the area include Humpbacks, Killer Whales, False Killer Whales as well as several other kinds.  Dolphins seem to love Gibraltar and use the areas waterways as a nursery. It is common to see them playing with their mothers in the waters around its shores.  Gibraltar is home to the Barbary Macaques, the last free ranging primates in Europe.   The diverse bird population includes the Barbary partridge and in any given week several thousands of migratory birds including seabirds, song birds, storks, falcons and vultures will all be part of the group here.
